About building a website

The process.

It has taken about 5 years, but I have worked out a process for building a website that, while not always flawless, gets the best result in terms of client satisfaction and timely presentation of the product. Each step is outlined in more detail as I send progress e-mails during the project.

Step 1 - Client contact
It's important that before I start on a project, I have as many details as possible about what you would like in your site. It would do no good for you to get a quote that doesn't cover the site you want. The final quote includes the maximum I expect the site to cost. If, due to changes down the line, you require something that will affect the quote, I will let you know in writing. I will also give you a solid time estimate, overviewing the milestones and final completion date, as well as a list of requirements from you to allow me to get the job done in time.

Step 2 - Quote approval and design
If you choose to proceed with the website, I will collect a deposit of 50% of the job cost and provide you with a web design contract on the day I start the project. I will then begin building the graphic design for your approval. As I finish this step, you need to start thinking about your page content, which will come into play in Step 4.

Step 3 - Design approval and template creation
The next step is to create a web page template from the approved design. This layout will be based on CSS style sheets instead of HTML tables, to take advantage of cleaner coding & better search engine visibility.

Step 4 - Template approval and page building
I will send you a dummy page so that you can see the final template. Once the template is approved, I will look to you for guidance on page content. All text sent my way will be edited as needed for grammar, flow, and search engine optimization.

Step 5 - Full site approval
You will now have a final site to look at and approve. If it's good to go, the final 50% of the job costs will be invoiced. Once paid, I will launch your site and send you a Zipped file containing all of the site files, folders and images. And with that, you're online!

Payment Schedule

With the approval of your quote, you will receive a web design contract and payment schedule. Initial deposits will range between 30 & 50% of the total job costs, and payment will be submitted with the signed contract.
